Food Science Technician

Triton Algae Innovations, a future-food technology company developing innovative algae-based food ingredients and applications, is seeking a technician to join its Food Science team in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities

- Carry out formulation, process development, shelf life, quality, and sensory experiments under the guidance of a scientist

- Maintain clear and detailed experimental records, analyze data, and communicate results effectively

- Maintain inventory and records of algae materials, ingredient samples, and supplies

- Keep work areas sanitary, clean, and organized.

- Test prototypes for use in culinary applications

- Assist with literature and industry trend research

- Assist with demonstration of algae ingredients and applications

- Possible travel for trade shows and/or plant trials

Qualifications/Requirements

- Bachelor or Associate degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or other related field, with 0-2 years of relevant industry experience. Alternately, a strong background of 1-3 years combined culinary and technical/scientific experience will be considered.

- Enthusiasm for food science applications of chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, microbiology, manufacturing, sensory science, and culinary arts principles.

- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation principles.

- Desire to contribute to and learn from to a cross-functional team in a small start-up environment.

- High level of organization, attention to detail, communication skills, initiative, and adaptability.

- Holds oneself to a high standard of laboratory and experimental record keeping.

- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Powerpoint.
