May 3, 2018 - Algae as food and feed

Dr. Xun Wang, CEO

"Chlamydomonas, a green algae for the future of food"

Triton helped to host “The Future of Algae for Food & Feed”, a day-long seminar featuring presentations and discussions from key thought leaders from across the algae, food, and feed industries, academia, and leading NGOs and philanthropic organizations.  Xun Wang, President & CEO of Triton, gave a keynote talk on the scientific and regulatory status of Triton’s natural algae as an affordable and nutritious ingredient for potential inclusion across a wide array of food products, as well as its potential to help address broader challenges of global hunger and protein deficiency.

Triton also played a central role in introducing its algae to the 100+ people in attendance that day, in a tasty and accessible food format; the event, and mid-day luncheon, took place at a La Jolla restaurant called the Farmer & the Seahorse, which is operated by celebrity chef Brian Malarkey.  Triton had previously begun to work with Chef Malarkey on  developing potential food formulations, and when this May event opportunity emerged, he took the initiative to get creative in incorporating Triton’s algae into the entire lunch menu.
